Apply for an organizational firearms license (for security guards)
Use this service to apply for a license to carry an organizational firearm for security guards.
To work as an armed security guard, you must apply for a license to carry an organizational firearm for security guards.
The application is made up of a number of steps which must be completed in sequence:
- Fill out the application for an organizational firearm license form in clear handwriting and attach the required documents listed on the application form.
- Submit the completed application form to the hiring security company or to a shooting range for an in-person interview.
- After your application has been authorized by the Israel Police and the Ministry of Health, you must take a mental fitness test at one of the licensed institutions. You cannot receive training at a training shooting range before passing the mental fitness test.
- After passing the mental fitness test, you will be referred for training at a shooting range, corresponding to the nature of the security role. After completing training, you will receive a temporary license and appendix - these will be replaced by a permanent license later.
Applicants must:
- Be permanent residents or citizens who have resided permanently in Israel continuously for at least 3 years before the course start date.
- Speak, read and write Hebrew at a basic level.
- Be aged 27 or above, or:
- Applicants who have completed military service must be age 20 or above.
- Applicants who have completed national or civil service must be age 21 or above.
- The completed application form for a license to carry organizational firearms. The application must be filled out by hand.
- Your CV - This must be filled out by hand in the presence of the security company or the managers of the shooting range.
- A photocopy of your ID card and the appendix.
- A photocopy of your IDF reserves card or certificate of exemption from IDF reserve service.
You can order a certificate from the IDF online – accessible on the Chrome browser or from mobile phone browsers. - A completed health declaration signed by your family doctor.
Note: The photograph for your firearms license will be taken at the shooting range.
- Security guards whose applications have been authorized by the Israel Police and a family doctor must take a mental fitness test given by a psychologist authorized to perform the test, in order to continue the application.
- The mental fitness test can only be taken if the applicant has been referred by the shooting range or the security company.
- Applicants who pass the test can receive the required training at a shooting range. Confirmation of successful completion of the test will be sent directly to the security company or shooting range, online.
- Please note: If you fail the mental fitness test you can appeal the result.
- Applicants who are found suitable are required to receive training corresponding to the type of security role they wish to fill, according to Israel Police requirements.
- During the training process, applicants must pass a theoretical exam followed by a practical test.
- Applicants who successfully complete the training will be issued a temporary license and appendix. The license card and appendix will be sent to each trainee by mail to the address listed in the Population Registry.
- The validity period of the license is set according to the ‘License Validity’ regulations and will not exceed three years, according to the established renewal group.
- Your first firearm license is issued free of charge.
