Here you can find information on applying for recognition as a World War 2 veteran from the Ministry of Defense, and various benefits granted to "Veterans in need".

Persons recognized as a Second World War Veteran receive the Fighters against Nazis Medal and a certificate of "war veteran" from the Ministry of Defense.
Persons recognized as a Second World War "Veteran in-Need", according to the Income Support Law, 5741-1980, are also entitled to various benefits from the National Insurance Institute and government bodies, detailed below.
Who can be recognized
You can be recognized as a World War 2 Veteran if you meet at least one of the following criteria:
- You served between 1 September, 1939 and 2 September 1945 with an Allied army, or a resistance or partisan unit fighting an enemy regime - except military service to which the Disabled (Remuneration and Rehabilitation) Law, 5719-1959 [Consolidated Version] applies.
- You have been officially recognized by the Former Soviet Union as a "Defender of Leningrad" and received a certificate or Medal "For the Defense of Leningrad" or a resident of Leningrad during the siege of the city in the second world war, .
Benefits for second World War "Veterans in-need"
If you receive National Insurance benefits according to the Income Support Law, 1980, and have been recognized as a veteran, you will be considered a "Veteran in-need".
In this case you will receive the National Insurance benefits according to the Income Support Law, 1980 and the following additional benefits.

Apply for recognition directly to the Ministry of Defense
- Request the relevant forms by contacting the Ministry of Defense by phone on 03-6975671, or by writing to:

- After receiving the forms, fill them in and return them to The Ministry of Defense Service Ribbons and Decorations Unit by post.
Once you have been recognized as a World War 2 veteran your details will be passed on from the National Insurance Institute and Ministry of Defense to all the relevant government bodies.
In case of death, recognized veterans' spouses will continue to receive the grant for an additional 3 years from the time of death.
