Give up (renounce) Israeli citizenship for Israelis who have left Israel
Use this service if you are an Israeli citizen, living abroad and want to give up your Israeli citizenship.
Who can apply
You can use this service to give up (renounce) your Israeli citizenship and your children’s Israeli citizenship if you have left Israel (emigrated) to another country.
- You must be over 18 to apply.
- Your children must be under 18 to be included in your application.
Giving up your child’s citizenship
- If both parents give up Israeli citizenship, their children who are under 18 are automatically included in the application
- Each child over 16 must grant their consent individually and in person and in writing
- If only one parent applies, the children will be included only if the other parent grants consent , or if the applying parent has sole custody.
Granting consent
In Israel you can grant consent in person or notarized consent.
Abroad you can grant consent:
- in person at the Israeli mission
- with notarized consent made by a notary approved by the Israeli mission
- with notarized consent stamped with an apostille
What you need
Each applicant must bring their:
- Israeli ID
- Israeli passport
- foreign passport
- and any other documentation that indicates Israeli citizenship
- a letter of explanation including:
- the reason for emigrating
- evidence of the circumstances
- a visa or permit to enter the destination country
If relevant, you’ll also need:
- confirmation from the Ministry of Housing that you have no outstanding debts for the absorption basket
- a divorce agreement proving sole custody of children included in the application, or the other parent’s consent to give up your children’s citizenship
- evidence that you have no obligations regarding military service if you are:
- a man between 18 and 29
- an unmarried woman between 18 and 28
- between 15 and 18
- a doctor up to 38

How to apply
- Download, print and complete the Application to renounce Israeli citizenship.
- Apply in person at one of the following:
- a Population and Immigration Authority office
- an Israeli mission in your country of residence
Anyone over 16 included in the application must apply in person.
