Regularize legal status in Israel for foreign nationals after the death of an Israeli spouse
Foreign nationals who were married to an Israeli citizen, can use this service to regularize their legal status in Israel after the death of their Israeli spouse.
Foreign nationals whose status was granted by virtue of a spousal relationship with an Israeli citizen will be sent an appointment to attend an interview at a Population and Immigration Authority office in order to assess regularization of their legal status in Israel, by registered post.
The interview will take place within 45 days of the notification of death.
How to regularize legal status
If you are a foreign national and your spouse, who was an Israeli citizen has passed away, contact the Population and Immigration Authority office to regularize your status.
What you need
Your Israeli ID card or foreign passport.
The service is free of charge.
Notes
- If the spousal relationship was terminated, and the graduated procedure for status was stopped, after the death of the Israeli spouse, the application for status for the foreign national spouse will be forwarded to the inter-ministerial committee for granting a status on humanitarian grounds.
- If the graduated procedure was stopped under other circumstances, and there are other special humanitarian reasons to be considered, for example, the spouse died while in active military duty, the application will be reviewed on its merits as an exception.
- You may be required to submit relevant documents, depending on the circumstances.
