Get recognized as a specialist social worker
Social workers can apply to get recognized as a specialist in a particular field of social work. Recognition as a specialist is solely for salary purposes.

What are the different recognized specialties
You can recognized as a specialist in following categories:
- family
- children and youth
- old age
- women
- corrections
- disabilities
- community
- health
- mental health
- management of welfare systems
Who are specialist social workers
Specialist social workers are:
- recognized in one of the 9 areas of expertise in social work, based on their professional experience, knowledge and performance
- have up-to-date knowledge, skills, abilities and high performance in their field of practice
- are able to handle, find solutions for and make decisions regarding problems and situations in their field, in a variety of complex situations including risk situations and unclear situations, and perform in-depth and critical thought processes
- are able to evaluate and critique the quality of their and others' performance, create new knowledge and pass it on in writing to professional communities through diverse channels
- base their performance on ethical standards and high personal and social responsibility towards the people you support
- professional leaders who contribute to the advancement of the people they support, advance the profession and are recognized for their excellence

Who do you need to apply to
According to the collective agreement regarding expertise, signed on 9 February 2015, The Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs is responsible for implementing the agreement and granting recognition to specialists in social work. The Professional Division for Social Work is responsible for direct execution, through:
- The Higher Expert Committee
- 9 professional committees in the fields recognized as specializations that The Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs partner’s in
- The Union of Social Workers
- The Social Work Council
- representatives within academia and the professional field
How to apply for recognition as a specialist social worker
- Read the terms and conditions for recognition as a specialist
- Complete and email the application for recognition as a specialist social worker form together with the required documents, as a single document to Mrs. Hadas Elmaleh, [email protected]
- You’ll get confirmation of eligibility to submit your performance file, based on the documents you submitted, if they show you met the threshold conditions in professional experience, education, studies in the field your specialty, guidance and recommendations, from Mrs. Hadas Elmaleh
- Write a 3-chapter performance portfolio according to the guidelines, and email it to Mrs. Hadas Elmaleh, [email protected]
- If you get a passing grade of 80 or above, you’ll be emailed a date for an interview
- In the interview you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your performance portfolio, based on the interview guidelines
- If you get a passing grade of 80 or above, you’ll be awarded recognition as a specialist
