Receiving a Sperm Donation
This service provides information on the process of sperm donation from anonymous donors or on bringing sperm donations from non-Jewish donors abroad.
- Sperm donation for fertility purposes is intended for women who need sperm that is not from their partners for medical reasons or for women who do not have a partner.
- Donated sperm units undergo initial disease prevention tests.
- There are public sperm banks that operate as part of independent hospitals and private sperm banks.
- Sperm donation is anonymous. Sperm donors do not know the identities of the people who receive their donations. The identity of the sperm donors is not known to the people who receive the donation.
A woman or a couple wishing to receive a sperm donation should contact a sperm bank recognized by the Ministry of Health.
Sperm donations can be obtained from non-Jewish donors in Israel or abroad.
The process for importing sperm donations from abroad is conducted as follows:
- The sperm bank you have chosen to work with in Israel will contact only a sperm bank abroad that has received the Ministry of Health’s approval (Hebrew listing).
- The sperm bank in Israel will be responsible for importing the sperm from abroad in accordance with the guidelines (Hebrew) and with the appropriate approvals from the Ministry of Health.

Alternatively, you can choose donors who are willing to disclose information about themselves, including the possibility of disclosing their identity to the children born from the donation when they turn 18 years old.
Please note,
All the information on the sperm donors or the sperm is kept confidential.
- The cost of purchasing a unit of sperm from the sperm banks is not covered by the Health Basket or financed by the HMOs.
