Sperm Donation
Here you can learn about donating sperm in Israel.
Sperm donations are made mainly for fertility purposes and are usually given to women who need sperm that is not from their partners for medical reasons or to women without a partner.
Who can donate sperm?
- Single men only (unmarried, divorced, or widowed):
- preferably aged 18 to 30
- preferably with at least a basic education
Donor selection process
- Initial screening phone call
- Initial screening meeting and testing—first semen evaluation and test
- Semen test, including freezing and thawing. After a number of tests, the lab team will decide if the sperm is qualitatively suitable
- Interview with the sperm bank manager, including various tests and background checks:
- genetic diseases check
- social background
- education
- physical examination
- blood and syphilis tests
- additional tests if medically required
- After the lab results are received—donor evaluation, including:
- reliability test
- health condition assessment
- characteristics and appearance evaluation
- sperm availability and qualitative suitability
- Signing statements:
- sperm bank exclusivity agreement (you can only donate to one sperm bank)
- confirmation of the correctness of medical information
- non-disclosure of pregnancies and births—you agree and understand that no details of the outcome of your sperm donation will be provided to you
How to make the sperm donation
You can donate sperm at a Ministry of Health-recognized sperm bank (HE).
Receiving payment for sperm donation
Payment for the donation is made directly from the sperm bank.
Notes
- You must be able to understand and be responsible for your actions.
- You can donate sperm regardless of religion or ethnic background
- If required, you must agree to store your DNA for future testing.
- The sperm bank undertakes to maintain the confidentiality of the donors forever.
