Change your first name
Use this service to change your first name or your children's first name in the population registry.
You can change your name once every 7 years.
Who can apply
- You must be over 18
- You can apply to change your children's names if they are under 18
What you need
If you are an adult changing your name you need:
- your ID card.
- your Israeli passport (if one has been issued).
- your spouse's ID appendix (if applicable).
- a detailed reason for the change of name.
If you are a parent changing your child's name you need:
- your ID and appendix
- your child's ID card and appendix. (if they are over 16)
- your child's passport (if one has been issued)
- both parents must give consent to the change of name. You can do this at different times and authority office
- a detailed reason for the change of name
- if you are applying to change your child's name and they are under 10, they do not need to come with you. You must add the following declaration:
ניתנה לילדנו הקטין ההזדמנות להביע את עמדתו, רצונו ורגשותיו בעניין שינוי השם, ונתנו להם משקל ראוי בהתחשב בגילו ובמידת בגרותו
"My child was given the opportunity to voice their opinion, wishes and feelings regarding the change of name, and we considered these, according to their age and level of maturity".
If your child is between 10 and 18 , they must come with you to apply and give verbal and written, signed consent.
You'll need to issue a new ID card and passport after you change your name. If your passport is valid for another year or more, you won't need to pay for the new one.

You must state the reason for the change of name in detail on the form

Print and complete the Change of first name form, and submit it in person, together with required documents, at your local Population and Immigration Authority offices.
- After changing your name, you'll need to issue a new ID card and passport.
- Schedule an appointment to apply in person at one of the Population and Immigration Authority offices.
- If your passport is valid for another year or more, you won't need to pay for the new one.
