Claim the vital work grant for discharged soldiers and national service volunteers
If you have completed compulsory military service or 24 months of national service, and have worked for 6 full months in a vital work job, you can use this service to claim a one-time grant from the National Insurance Institute.
Who can claim the grant
You can claim the grant if:
- You are a discharged soldier from compulsory service, or a national service volunteer who has completed 24 months of national service.
- You are woman who has been released from military or national service in order to marry, and have completed 6 months service, and have married within 30 days of the end of service date.
- You must have completed 6 full consecutive or non-consecutive months over a 24 month period from your discharge date, in a vital work job, as a:
- Industrial factory and workshops worker.
- Building site worker.
- Petrol station worker.
- Hotel worker.
- Agriculture and packaging industry worker.
- Carer for persons with disabilities.
- If you started working in the vital work job a year or more after your discharge date you must also be eligible to receive unemployment benefit pay.
- You must have worked a full-time position, according to the sector you are employed in.
- You must have started working in the vital work job within 24 months of completing your service.
- You must submit the claim after you have worked at least 6 months in the vital work job and no later than 42 months from your discharge date.
Grant sum
The full grant is 9,577 NIS (as of 1 January, 2018) if you have completed the required work period.
Eligibility for a partial grant for workers in vital work jobs
You may be eligible to receive a partial grant, if you meet the following criteria:
- You worked in a vital work job that has been assessed as not suitable for you, based on professional suitability or distance from your home, for at least 25 consecutive work days, during the first 21 months from your discharge date, or for 3 consecutive months between the 22nd and 24th months since your discharge date.
- If you started working in the vital work job a year or more after your discharge date, you must be eligible to receive unemployment benefit pay.
Partial Grant sum
- Your grant sum will be calculated based on the number of days you worked.
- If you are a discharged soldier who worked in the agriculture sector for only 4 months you will receive a partial gran to 6,385 NIS (as of 1 January, 2018).
What you need to submit the claim
- A copy of your military discharge papers or other military document, stating your discharge date, or confirmation of your national service period.
- A letter of confirmation from your employer stating:
- Your job description.
- The job location.
- The period of work.
- Your salary.
- The number of days worked per month.
- If you started working in a vital work job, 12 months or more from your discharge date, you must provide copies of all your pay slips, from all your previous places of work, prior to working in the vital work job.

- You must submit the claim after you have worked at least 6 months in the vital work job and no later than 42 months from your discharge date.
