Receiving and activating a biometric ID card (free of charge)
This service describes the procedure for delivery and activation of the new biometric identity card you have ordered, after the card is issued.
- The ID Card will be valid only after it has been delivered and activated.
- Activating the ID Card will enable you to easily receive services from government authorities. But be aware that some authorities are not notified immediately upon ID Card activation.
- The issue date appears on the ID Card itself. Example
- On completion of the ID card application process, you will receive a document containing your personal delivery code and passwords.
- A postal worker from the Israel Post will deliver the ID Card as registered mail to the address you supplied, or to a mail delivery location near your home. Upon delivery, you will be asked to:
- identify yourself before the representative of the Israel Post with your current ID card, passport, driver's license, or military identity card.
- supply your personal code as it appears on the password document or in the text message you received. The postal representative will verify your personal delivery code, before giving you the ID Card.
- If you are not at home when the mailman arrives, a message will be left for you to collect the mail from your nearest mail delivery location, and the ID Card delivery process, including verification of your delivery code, will be performed at the time of collection.
- Should you fail to collect your mail from the post office, it will be sent back after 15 days to the office of the Population Authority where the application was submitted and where the ID Card was issued. You will then be invited to come to the office and the activation will be carried out by a Population Authority.
- In those circumstance, the ID Card will be delivered to you at that Population and Immigration Authority office, subject to identification and after providing your personal code.
- Once you've provided the postal representative with your personal code, you will receive your activated ID card, which can be used immediately.
- Once you have received the new ID Card, you can no longer use the old or temporary ID Card you hold.
- For applicants under the age of 18 – upon delivery of a first ID card, the identity card of one of the parents, including its appendix bearing the applicant's name, must be presented to the postal representative.
