Request a medical assessment committee for Holocaust survivors
Holocaust survivors can use this service to request a medical assessment committee regarding a decline in their health.
Who can apply
You must meet all the following criteria:
- You are a holocaust survivor recognized by the Authority for Holocaust Survivors Rights.
- You receive benefits for holocaust survivors from the Ministry of Finance.
- Your disability level was last updated more than 6 months ago.
What you need
You can request to attend the medical assessment committee or request that the committee be held in abdentia (without your presence).
- If you request to attend the medical assessment committee, you should attach all your medical documents, but this is not required.
- If you request that the committee be held without you, you must attach all your relevant medical documents, including all prior conditions and all new conditions.
The Holocaust Survivors Rights Authority holds medical assessment committees through independent judicial bodies authorized to make decisions at the sole discretion of their medical members.
The committee's bases its decisions on the following laws and regulations:
- War veterans of the Nazis.
- Law for the Disabled of Nazi Persecution.
Types of medical assessment committees and their powers
- District Medical Committee - Determines the disability sections and percentages recognized by the authorized authority.
- Supreme Medical Committee - Hears appeals on District Medical Committee decisions.
- Committee in Absentia - The committee may, with the consent of the applicant, determine the degree of the disability based soley on the submitted medical documents, without examining the applicant.
The committee hearing and medical examination
- A doctor will examine the medical material and the documents in the application file before the committee is convened.
- If there are additional medical documents that have not been submitted to the committee, they can be submitted during the committee hearing.
- The examing doctor will ask the applicant questions and conduct a physical examination, if necessary.
- You can bring someone with you to be present during the examination. The committee will let you know how many people can be present.
- The medical examination is solely for the purpose of assessing the medical and determining the level of disability. It is not the same as a regular examination performed by the family doctor or another doctor.
- The commitee's decision will be sent within 14 days of the hearing.
Appealing the committee's decision
- You can appeal a committee decision within 60 days of the receiving the decision.
- You can submit medical documents that you think can change the decision.
