Vehicle License Renewal
This service provides information on payment of the vehicle license renewal and test fee.
When the fee should be paid
- The payment must be made before the license expires. The annual vehicle license fee can be paid at most 60 days before the current year's vehicle license expires.
- Payment must be made before the license expires.
- At the start of the month that precedes the month in which the vehicle license expires, a request for renewal will be sent by mail.
There is no need to wait to receive the request for payment. - If the vehicle owner failed to renew the license on time:
The first letter to perform a competency test (test) and for renewal of the vehicle license will be sent approximately one month after the expiration of the vehicle license. A second letter will be sent approximately two months and a third letter after approximately 3 months.
Approximately four months after the expiration of the vehicle license, the vehicle license may be renewed at the Penalties Collection Center.
Fee Payment Methods
The amount of payment that appears in the computerized system and not the amount appearing on the mailed form is the effective payment.
(The difference in amounts is attributed to Index differentials).
When it is possible to receive a discount or reimbursement of the vehicle license fee.
Payment may be made via credit card in one of the following ways:
- Digitally-
- in the government personal area
- Payment is made following identification in the national identification system, and provides personalized service following a brief one-time registration, while providing maximum security that offers protection from fraud and stolen identity.

Payments for the vehicle license renewal can be made in 12 monthly credit installments.
Additional payment methods:
- Bank transfer - subscribers to the bank’s online services can execute payment by bank transfer on the government payment service.
- At Israel Post Office branches
- Payment can be made by credit card, cash, check of the vehicle license holder or charge of the bank account.
- A practical test cannot be taken before the payment is updated.
Once payment is made
- Payment will be immediately updated in the Ministry of Transport payment system and in the authorized garage systems.
- An updated vehicle license will be generated at the payment site or will be sent to the email and mobile phone.
Renewal of a vehicle license whose owner died is contingent upon the successor arriving at the License Bureau after having scheduled an appointment in advance on the website, GoVisit once an Order of Succession or Order of Probate has been received, once payment of the renewal fee has been made and once the vehicle has undergone a test.
Schedule an appointment for a test at one of the authorized garages.
Payment must be made, and the test performed before the expiration of the previous license.
If the vehicle license has expired
- Driving a vehicle whose license has expired is prohibited.
- Call a tow truck or a carrier from authorized garage to perform the test once the fee has been paid.
- A request may be submitted to extend the validity of the vehicle license for a period of 48 hours.
Scheduling an Appointment for a Test
Enter the TesTime system
- Enter the details of the vehicle owner and the details of the vehicle being tested
- Select an authorized garage to perform the test and schedule a date and time
- Attach the paid vehicle license and valid car insurance (printing at the authorized garage is not possible)
Please note,
The details are required for identification upon arriving at the authorized garage.
The information is stored in compliance with the highest security standard and will be used to schedule an appointment for the test, to perform the test and as a reminder of the test date.
Close to the date of the next test (one year later), an SMS will be sent with a link to the TesTime system to schedule an appointment for the annual test.
Test
- Arrive at the authorized garage on the date and time scheduled for the test.
- Payment of the test fee should be made to the authorized garage. Amounts of the vehicle license fees
- For a vehicle that is at least 15 years old, a brake system test must also be performed at the authorized garage and confirmation must be attached before the test is performed.
- A new vehicle that is under 3 years old and a new rental or leased vehicle that is under two years old are exempt from being tested but are not exempt from payment of the vehicle license renewal fee.
- During the identification of a damaged license plate during the vehicle test, the plate will be replaced at the authorized garage at no extra cost, as long as 5 years have not passed from the date of manufacture of the plate.
- Once the test is successfully passed, the vehicle license will be stamped.
If the vehicle did not pass the test
- If the defects can be remedied at the authorized garage-
- The necessary repairs should be made.
- Go to the vehicle examiner who will confirm their performance.
- Go to the garage office for the purpose of getting a road worthiness test stamp on the vehicle license and getting a sticker for the windshield.
- If the defects cannot be corrected at the authorized garage, the required repair must be performed at an authorized garage.
- A temporary “traffic permit" will be received for a period of 7 days.
- Once the garage has completed the repair, you must schedule another test at an authorized garage. (For a retest, it is necessary to pay once more).
The new vehicle license will only become valid after the vehicle licensing fee has been paid in full and the vehicle has successfully passed a test.
The vehicle details can be viewed: license, date of vehicle license renewal, ownership, vehicle status, model details, foreclosures and additional information, in the personal area.
A printed vehicle licensed is an official vehicle license.
It is, however, mandatory to carry an official ID of the State of Israel (ID card or passport), an insurance certificate and appendices to the driver's license.
