Renew a vehicle license
You need to renew your vehicle license every year. To renew your license, pay the license fee and take it to get a roadworthiness test. You'll also need to make sure it's covered with compulsory insurance.

How to renew your vehicle license
To renew your vehicle license you need to pay the license fee and get your car tested.
- Pay:
- online with a credit card or by bank transfer
- at a rishiomat stand with a credit card in the name of the vehicle license holder
- by phone on *5678, or +972-3-9695678 from abroad
- at the post office in cash, or with a credit card, cheque or bank transfer. Your temporary license will only be valid after 14 days
- Make sure you have compulsory insurance
- Get your car tested at a vehicle testing institute
Vehicles over 15 years old must also pass a brake test at an authorized garage
- When you pay online or by phone, you'll be emailed your temporary license. You can print it on any printer
- When you pay at a rishiomat or post office, you'll get a printed temporary license. If you pay at the post office, it will only be valid after 14 days
- You'll get a sticker for your vehicle when it passes the test
- You can print the vehicle license at the vehicle testing institute. You don't need to bring it with you
You can't drive your vehicle if you don't have a valid license.
What to bring to the testing institute
You'll need:
- the ID number of the vehicle owner
- the compulsory vehicle insurance

When is your vehicle license valid
After you pass the roadworthiness test your vehicle license will be stamped, making it valid.
If you didn't bring the license to the testing institute you can print it there.
When is your vehicle exempt from the road worthiness test
You don't need to get your vehicle tested if it's:
- a private vehicle that's been registered for less than 3 years
- a rental or leasing vehicle that's been registered for less than 2 years
If your vehicle doesn't need to pass a test, it'll say so on the license.
Note
Payments made to the State of Israel are usually not subject to VAT, which means the State of Israel is not required to produce a tax invoice (because no VAT component exists). You can request recognition of payments, according to the Income Tax Ordinance.
