Apply to begin a conversion to Judaism (giyur) procedure in Israel
Israel citizens who are permanent residents, or holders of a residence visa can apply to open a giyur (conversion to Judaism) procedure, if they haven’t applied in the past. There is no application fee.
You’ll need to:
- be an Israeli citizen and permanent resident
- or hold a legal residence visa in Israel
and be applying for the first time
If there is an open conversion case in military court, contact the relevant district in advance and request to close the military conversion file. Your application won’t be processed until the military file has been closed and has been scanned in the district.
What you need to attach to your application
Israeli citizens and permanent residents need to attach:
- a copy of your ID card including the slip (appendix). If it’s a biometric ID, attach copies of both sides
- an extended population registry extract including all your registered details.
Holders of a legal Israel residence visa need to attach:
- a copy of your temporary ID card including the slip (appendix)
- a copy of your passport
