Getting a senior citizen card
You’ll be sent your senior citizen card when you reach retirement age (women - 62, men – 67) to your registered address. If it doesn’t arrive, or you need to replace it, add a photo, add English, or change details, you can apply via the Senior Citizen app or online. It’s free.
What is a senior citizen card and who can get one
Senior citizens are eligible for all sorts of discounts and benefits. Your senior citizen card is used to prove that you are a senior citizen. It is often accepted abroad as well.
When do you get your senior citizen card
- Every Israeli resident that has reached retirement age according to the Population Registry, gets a senior citizen card
- Today, retirement age for men is 67 and for women 62
- It’s automatically sent to your registered address (your address on your ID slip)
The Senior Citizens Law 1989 provides that a senior citizen is a resident of Israel who, according to the Population Registry, has reached retirement age
When is your card not valid
Your card is only valid if:
- it’s a plastic card printed with your photo
- it’s a digital card with your photo
- doesn’t have your photo, but you can show another photo ID that has your age together with it (for example, you driving license)
When do you need to apply for a senior citizen card
You only need to actively apply for a senior citizen card if:
- it hasn’t arrived within 30 days of reaching retirement age to your registered address. If necessary, you can apply to change your registered address
- it doesn’t have a photo and you want one
- it was stolen or lost
- you want it with English to use abroad
- the details are wrong
- you want to replace an old one
Getting a new senior citizen card
You can use the Senior Citizen’s app to:
- issue a digital senior citizen card by yourself. It’s ready to use immediately
- apply for a new plastic card with your photo

- You’ll need to use your personal smartphone
- You can only issue one digital card
- Your plastic card will be sent to your registered address, as registered in the Population Registry
You can also apply for a senior citizen card using the online form, but it won’t be issued with your photo.
You'll need to use it together with another photo ID document with your photo and date of birth, for example your ID card or driver's license.
You can check the status of your application online to find out if:
- it’s being processed
- your card has been issued and printed
- it’s on the way to you by Israel Post to your registered address
