Cancellation of a Vehicle Registration
This service allows you to cancel a vehicle registration, thereby removing the vehicle from the street.
Conditions for Submitting the Application
It is not possible to take a vehicle off the road that has a lien, encumbrance, debt or any other restriction on it. You must lift the restriction before submitting the application.
"A vehicle that is no longer in use because it has become obsolete, has been dismantled, has been determined to be a total loss vehicle or that is about to be permanently sent outside of Israel
The vehicle owner registered in the license must notify the Licensing Authority of this in the form or by the manner instructed by the Authority."
Required Documents
• ID of the vehicle owners.
• Vehicle license, if it is still valid.
If the vehicle license is not valid, the vehicle owner will pay the relative part of the licensing fee from the expiration date and their arrival in the licensing office to cancel the vehicle. If the vehicle status is ‘deposit’, the owner will not be charged with any amount.
If the vehicle license is valid, the vehicle owner will complete an application form for reimbursement of the licensing fee in order to receive a reimbursement of the relative share of the fee from the date of cancellation of the vehicle and until the end of the period fo the vehicle license.
• A copy of the check with the bank account details of the owner of the registered vehicle and a document attesting to the management of the account.
• If the vehicle owner is unable to arrive, an attorney-in-fact can send to the licensing office on behalf of the owner a power of attorney form for a private individual completed and signed or a freely written power of attorney along with the original ID of the owner of the registered vehicle and of the attorney-in-fact.
The service is provided free of charge
• Vehicle owners must remove the license plate and make sure that they are destroyed.
• From the moment hte vehicle license is deposited with the licensing office or when the vehicle is permanently removed from the street and once the licensing office has been notified, the fee for payment of the vehicle is automatically cancelled.
• The vehicle owner will be entitled to a proportional refund of the license fee he paid, if the vehicle license is valid for 30 days or more.
Submitting the application
Go to one of the licensing offices, after having scheduled an appointment through the GoVisit website with the necessary documents, and identify with the ID of the vehicle owners.
Restoring eligibility of a vehicle whose registration was cancelled
• If you wish to restore eligibility of the vehicle license after canceling the vehicle registration, you must submit to the licensing office an affidavit signed by a lawyer that states that the vehicle is in good working order and complete in all its parts.
The affidavit must be submitted within one month from the day the vehicle was taken off the road by the registered vehicle owner.
• If the affidavit is submitted after more than one month from the date of cancellation of the vehicle's registration, you must go to an authorized garage for inspection in accordance with Regulation 308, the garage will provide the vehicle owner with a certificate of the vehicle's integrity.
