Request to open an adoption file
If you’ve been adopted, you can request to open your adoption file when you’re 18. Your adoption file includes information such as details of your biological parents and the circumstances of your adoption.
When you reach 18, you can apply to view your adoption file, in accordance with section 30 of the Adoption of Children Law, 5741-1981.
The adoption file includes information such as:
- your identifying information
- your biological parents' details
- documents relating to the circumstances of your adoption
Who can apply
Anyone who was adopted can apply to open their adoption file when they reach 18
How to apply
Apply online. You’ll need to register to GovID first.
Attach a copy of your ID.
You can also complete the paper form and submit it with a copy of your ID:

What happens next
Within 45 days applying, you’ll be invited to meet with a social worker who deals with Adoption of Children Law cases, who will be with you throughout the process and help you to get ready.
If the social worker believes that opening the adoption file may be significantly harmful, they may decide to deny to provide you with details of your biological family.
If so, you can apply to the Family Court to decide the issue.
