What is the national program for genetic screening of newborn babies
The State of Israel, like most western countries, operates national genetic screening of newborn babies. While most babies are born healthy, a few are born who appear healthy but suffer from treatable diseases.
In most cases, a newborn's blood test will be the earliest indication of a disease. Early diagnosis can help in effective preventive treatment or treatment that can greatly improve the quality and length of life.
The service is provided free of charge.
How is the genetic screening done
Immediately after birth, 4 drops of blood are taken from the newborn's heel for screening. The sample is sent to the Ministry of Health's central laboratory.
How to get the results
To see your newborn's genetic screening results go to the test results page.
You can see the results of the first tests made immediately after birth. The results are displayed from 14 days after the birth.
If the result is within the normal range, there is no indication of disease
