Procedure for the Import of Dogs and Cats into Israel
This service provides information on the process for importing dogs and cats into Israel, with and without an import permit
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security supervises the importation of animals from abroad, including dogs and cats, in order to prevent the introduction of animal diseases into Israel, for the protection of public health and animal welfare. Dogs and cats imported legally into Israel are permitted entry if they meet all the requirements. In accordance with the Animal Diseases Regulations (Import of Animals),1974, an import license is required to import an animal into Israel. If you meet all of the following cumulative conditions, you may submit an application for an import license exemption:
- The import is of up to two dogs or cats.
- The dog or cat is arriving with its owner on the same flight.
- The dog or cat has been under its owner's personal care for at least 90 days prior to the flight to Israel.
- The dog or cat meets all the health requirements listed below.
- The dog or cat is not of a breed whose entry into Israel is restricted.
- The dog or cat is intended to stay in Israel with the owner arriving on the same flight and will not be transferred to another person.
