Occupational Safety and Health Administration

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration operates by virtue of the Labor Inspection Organization Law, 5714 - 1954 and by virtue of the Occupational Safety Ordinance, 5730 - 1970. The main goals of the administration are to prevent work accidents and to safeguard the health of the workers in the State of Israel. 

Accordingly, the administration is responsible for setting the policy on work safety, employee health and occupational hygiene, and for supervising and enforcing the provisions of the various laws and regulations in these areas in workplaces

Administrative Duties

• Supervision and enforcement - the safety / labor inspectors perform supervision in the various sectors of the economy - industry, craft, construction, agriculture and services - check compliance with the requirements of the laws and regulations and enforce them. Also, the administration has an investigative unit that investigates work accidents and occupational diseases.
• Certification and licensing - the administration establishes conditions and requirements for the certification and licensing of professional bodies operating in the field of safety and health, and carries out the certification and licensing.
• Permits and approvals - the administration issues permits and approvals for various activities such as: permits for the use of explosives and fireworks, permits for fuel and gas storage, approvals for business licensing.
• Encouraging activities to promote safety at work - encouraging and funding research and activities carried out by various bodies in the economy, whose purpose is to promote safety in workplaces.
