The department oversees three areas:
- Pests
- Licensing/registration of pesticides
- Licensing/registration of exterminators
Main responsibilities of the department:
- Supervision over and professional guidance of local authorities relating to the issue of reducing pest hazards - including mosquitoes, flies, rodents, wasps, and fleas - in as environmentally-friendly way as possible
- Licensing pesticides intended for use against these pests
- Issuing licenses to pest control workers and supervising their professional training
