The National Claims Unit is responsible for enforcing the law in all of the areas supervised by the Ministry of Transportation
Areas of Activity
The National Claims Unit is part of the Ministry of Transportation Legal Bureau and deals in enforcing the law in the Ministry’s supervision and enforcement fields, both at the criminal level (filing indictments) and on the administrative level (imposing monetary sanctions).
The unit is comprised of prosecutors who are certified by the Attorney General, who represent the Ministry of Transportation in criminal proceedings conducted in courts across the country.
Areas of Enforcement of National Claims Unit
- Public transportation: special taxies and service taxies, public transit operators, bussing companies, leasing and more.
- Shipping: ship safety and procedures.
- Vehicle sector: auto imports, auto manufacturing, vehicle and transportation product trading and importing, garages for making repairs to motor vehicles and more.
- The aviation sector.
Conducting criminal proceedings by the Claims Unit.
After conducting a criminal investigation, a certified prosecutor shall determine whether there is sufficient evidence for an indictment.
If an indictment is filed, the defendant shall be summoned to a court hearing. After that, the defendant may visit the Claims Unit, during public reception hours, to study the evidence against them.
The defendant may be represented by an attorney.
