Israel Space Agency
About
Established in 1983, the Israel Space Agency is a government entity that operates as part of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space. The Israel Space Agency initiates, spearheads and coordinates Israel’s civilian space activity, in order to reach Israel’s goals for the space industry, based on the national civilian space plan. The Israel Space Agency is responsible for scientific programs and projects designed to utilize space for the benefit of Israeli society and economy, with an emphasis on a generic infrastructure contribution to the future. The activity is conducted in collaboration with Israeli companies and enterprises engaged in the field, as well as with foreign institutions, in order to exchange information and receive access to information databases.
In recent years, the economic power of the space industry has increased; and it is considered significant to the economy of information and computer-related fields, navigation, communication and observations of the Earth. The intensive involvement in the space industry is shared by just a few countries: the U.S. and Russia superpowers, European countries and growing powerful countries of Eastern Asia, headed by China and India. For these countries, space research and its application are a catalyst for demonstrating national power with economic strength and technological advancement. In order to ensure the continuation of Israel’s momentum in the field of space research and its utilization, we must continue to invest in the civilian space program, which includes the Israeli industry and academia. This will help Israel become one of the world’s leaders in space research making an economic, scientific-technological and security impact.
