Includes the Licensing Department, the Vehicle Department, the Technology and Innovation Sector and the Safety Officers’ Unit. The Administration works to advance road safety by protecting the safety of vehicles, use of advanced vehicle systems and improving driver skills. In addition, the Administration focuses on improving service for the public in the licensing and vehicle departments, supporting the auto industry and helping companies dealing in the development of vehicular systems in Israel.
The Licensing Department has four regional branches linked to 30 fixed branches as well as deployed testing points.
The Vehicles and Maintenance Services Department has four regional branches.
Unit Duties
- Through the Vehicle Department, the Administration is responsible for carrying out Ministry policy in all matters connected to motor vehicles, vehicle repairs, imports, manufacturing, maintenance systems, spare parts and heavy construction equipment.
- Through the Licensing Department, the Administration is responsible for carrying out Ministry policy in all matters pertaining to driver training, testing, licensing, certifying driving instructors and professional managers, issuing driving licenses and auto licenses and providing a public service by decentralizing the various services so that the public will not be required to visit the licensing offices and can receive services via other means.
- The vehicle sectors and the driving sectors touch upon each other and together influence the quality of driving, which is comprised of driving skills on the one hand and auto safety on the other.
- The job of the technology an innovation sector is to design the regulatory sector of the Ministry of Transportation so as to ensure the integration of advanced driver-assistance systems in vehicle and allow the introduction and integration of autonomous vehicles in Israel while protecting the safety of the various parties using the roads. The technology and innovation sector must create a supporting foundation for researching and developing vehicular systems in Israel and allow trials to be conducted to prove the viability of advanced systems on Israeli roads.
- The Safety Officers’ Unit was attached to the Traffic Administration in July 2003.
- Through this unit, the Administration is responsible for:
- The safety of vehicles owned by the Company/Factory, their fitness and maintenance.
- Nurturing the human element operating the vehicles in question, driver training, welfare and so on.
- Advising Management on all subjects pertaining to traffic safety.
- Maintaining relationships with outside elements in the field (police, accident victims, insurance companies).
