About
The Licensing Department brings together the following units: Licensing, Updates and Control, National Driving Schools Supervisor, Licensing and IT, Administration.
The Department has four regional offices: Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Center, Haifa and North, Beersheba and South.
These districts have some 30 branches around the country in which any citizen can receive basic services, with the exception of diplomats, technical alterations to vehicles and public vehicle subjects, which are carried out in accordance with the district of residence.
- Northern District: any town from Netanya or the Triangle to Kiryat Shmona.
- Central District: any town from Herzliya, Ra’anana, Ramat Hasharon and south to Rehovot.
- Jerusalem District: any town from Jerusalem, Gedera, Ashdod, Ashkelon to Kiryat Malachi.
- Beersheba District: any town from Kiryat Gat, Netivot, Ofakim to Eilat.
Unit Duties
- Responsibility for carrying out Ministry of Transportation policy in all subjects connected to licensing vehicles and drivers, in such a manner that will increase road safety, with the aim of improving the level of driver skill and related factors, and increasing the level and quality of service.
- Responsibility for licensing drivers: passing regulations, procedures and legislation, setting health and professional criteria, certification and training, practical and written tests, licensing, corrective measures, PR.
- Responsibility for and supervision of all supporting systems: driving teachers and schools, driving education at high schools, training lots, professional managers, driving testers, road safety health institute, courses and training facilities, driving studies and so on.
- Responsibility for licensing services, issuing driving licenses and vehicle licenses. Issuing licenses for new cars, renewals and unique vehicle licensing.
Responsibility for the professional training of drivers of professional vehicles.
Determining driver fitness levels for the continued use of all types of motor vehicles.
The Department works to improve services for the public by decentralizing the licensing services array (certifying outside elements to provide services), expanding the deployment array of licensing branches, decentralizing services that until now were only provided at regional licensing centers, developing a computerized control array for all licensing activities, improving human and computerized public call centers.
