Environmental Planning Department

Responsibilities of the department:

• Integration of environmental perspectives into national outline plans, master plans, etc., in order to:
  • ensure efficient use of natural resources;
  • preservation of open spaces;
  • environmentally-friendly use of infrastructure; and
  • prevent harm to the environment and the Israeli population
• Presentation of environmental perspectives during discussions at national planning committees and meetings
• Presentation of environmental perspectives to committees working on projects initiated by Government Decisions
• Professional guidance to regional and local planning and building committees, in order to ensure that plans incorporate environmental perspectives
• Initiate Environmental Impact Assessments in order to evaluate the impact of large-scale projects such as: power stations, airports, roads, railways, ports, and marinas
• Guide legislators who are writing or revising laws, with regards to environmental planning, and providing a Ministry of Environmental Protection opinion when necessary during relevant court cases
