Education and Community Department

At the National Level

• Developing and formulating the department's policy.
• Working with the Ministry of Education to initiate joint programs.
• Initiating projects with the Ministry's departments to promote its goals.
• Collaborating with external environmental organizations and other entities to promote the Ministry's goals.
• Developing learning materials on environmental topics.

At the Regional Level - An environmental education coordinator operates in each of the Ministry's districts. These are the main points of their activity:

• Initiating joint projects with regional institutions engaged in education.
• Organizing events and activities in the district.
• Coordinating and guiding the activity of environmental education centers in local authorities.
• Providing a response to authorities that do not have a local environmental education coordinator.
• Developing regional hubs for comprehensive environmental educational activity.
• Promoting special projects in the formal and informal education sectors in the district.
• Promoting cooperation between all green organizations in the district.

At the Local Level

In some local authorities, environmental education centers have been established. The centers were established in cooperation between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the local authorities within the framework of associations of towns for environmental protection or environmental units. The purpose of the education centers: to be a proactive and guiding focal point, instructing and coordinating between all entities engaged in environmental education, and to operate within the framework of formal and informal education and with the community for the quality of the environment in the local authority and from a national and international perspective.

Main Activities of the Centers

• Direct contact with educational institutions, including guidance for teachers and students.
• Operating students in various frameworks.
• Organizing seminars for various sectors in the community, including teachers and kindergarten educators, authority employees, industry workers, and the like.
• A pedagogical information center for lending educational auxiliary materials.
• A center for preparing learning and enrichment materials with a local emphasis.
• Initiating information campaigns and organizing events for the general public.
• Promoting programs to raise awareness and for taking responsibility in the community.
• Distribution of learning and information materials.
