Employment
About
The Ministry of Aliyah and Integration operates on a number of levels in order to integrate new immigrants into the local job market, in accordance with their education and accumulated work experience. Programs vary according to the immigrant's profession, their personal data, and the requirements of the profession in Israel.
There are some professions for which no preparation is required, with the exception of Hebrew study. Practitioners of these professions can find work through advertisements, with the help of Ministry counselors, through the Employment Service, through organizations and other voluntary bodies that assist new immigrants, or with the help of other personal contacts.
Numerous other professions require a preparatory period that includes: studying vocational Hebrew, licensing exams or certification, and internship for a specific period. There are some instances in which, following investigation and attempts to integrate into their profession, new immigrants require professional retraining, which enables more accessible employment.
The Employment Division grants new immigrants and returning residents a range of services to help ease their vocational integration:
- Guidance and counseling for successful absorption in employment
- Vocational ulpan and licensing and retraining courses
- The Voucher Project
- Assistance in job placement
- Recognition of new-immigrant artists and athletes
