The Division for Strategic Defense Policy
About
The division coordinates dealing with the defense establishment in all security and military aspects, including the fields pertaining to preparedness, buildup, war plans, as well as in other aspects related to the economic-security issues. The division examines, regulates, recommends and coordinates all the organizations and bodies operating in the fields pertaining to security concepts, the use of force, force building and defense budgets, with the aim of strengthening national security.
The Division's Responsibilities:
- Consolidating and leading the NSC's work in the field of military and defense activities.
- Preparing the NSC's work for the prime minister, including preparation for discussions on defense budgets, the security agencies' agendas and multi-year plans, including formulating alternatives to be presented in the political-security cabinet's discussions.
- Examining the State of Israel's security concept and operational plans.
- Coordinating the NSC's staff work in preparation for the defense budget, including budgeting Israel's defense organizations and the IDF's agenda.
- Examining the defense establishment's multi-year plans, formulating alternatives and making recommendations in relation to them.
- Examining important defense projects in the political-security field and presenting the NSC's recommendation to the government, the Ministerial Committee on National Security or any other body that the prime minister deems suitable, according to a considered list of priorities from a complete perspective.
- Long term strategic planning.
