The Government Companies Authority was established and operates in accordance with the Government Companies Law, 5735 - 1975.
The Authority is an auxiliary unit of the Ministry of Finance and serves as the government headquarters for government companies in privatization supervision and structural changes to companies.
The authority is responsible for over 100 companies, including governmental business and non-business companies, subsidiaries and jointly owned companies, some of which are amongst the largest and diverse in the country, such as: The Israel Electric Corporation, Israel Aerospace Industries, IMI, Rafael, Mekorot, the Port Companies, Israel Railways, oil infrastructures, Ma'atz, Saving Funds, and other companies.
