About
The Asbestos and Chemical Registration Department operates under the 2011 Prevention of Asbestos Hazards Law and its regulations, in order to prevent new asbestos hazards and to reduce existing ones.
Responsibilities of the department:
- Promoting new legislation for the prevention of asbestos and harmful dust hazards
- Preparing and publishing professional procedures and guidelines for working with asbestos and harmful dust, and enforcing these guidelines
- Granting permits to work on asbestos at the national level (more than 1,500 per year), and supervision of these works
- Training and licensing of asbestos contractors in the field, as well as of: inspectors, surveyors, sampling laboratories, analysis laboratories, and end sites for the disposal of asbestos waste
- Leading the "Green Road for Asbestos Removal" project - to remove friable asbestos across the Western Galilee
- Treating asbestos events caused by asbestos-cement fires, illegal demolition, missiles, etc.
- Coordinating activities of the professional committee operating under the Prevention of Asbests Hazards Law, 5771-2011
- Chemical registration
- Supervising the treatment of asbestos in the IDF and in Israel's education system
- Raising public awareness about asbestos hazards
