The Authority is responsible for the conservation and rehabilitation of natural water sources, development of new water sources and supervision of water consumers and producers so to efficiently provide water and sewage services of maximum quality and reliability, while maintaining sustainability, for the well-being of the residents of the State of Israel.
The water authority (in its full name: the Governmental Authority for Water and Sewage) was established in 2007 with the aim to unify the management and supervision authorities in the water and sewage sector under a one professional government entity. The authority is under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy, which is represented on the authority's council through the Deputy Director General of the Ministry.
