The Engineering Administration comprises the following units:
- Communications Engineering Branch
- Planning and Spectrum Engineering Branch
- Wireless Licensing Domain
- The Communication Sector Cyber Defense Unit
Roles
- The Communications Engineering Branch is in charge of establishing engineering opinions for determining communication policies and regulation rules, establishing rules for regulating the media companies’ technical-engineering preparedness for emergency, reviewing and formulating opinions on the engineering appendixes to media companies’ licensing processes, defining technical specifications and engineering standards for services and communications equipment, planning and managing numbering plans (constructing the numbering plan, managing the resource).
- The Planning and Spectrum Engineering Branch is in charge of managing Israel’s frequency spectrum resource and of providing licenses for using it. As such, the Branch plans and allocates radio frequencies for civil and security users (issuing licenses), maintains regular professional contact with international wireless communications organizations, collects licensing fees and frequency allocations fees.
- The Wireless Licensing Domain is in charge of issuing licenses for using frequencies and approving the use of wireless equipment types – issuing trade licenses to entities, issuing type approvals for wireless equipment.
- The Sectorial Cyber Unit deals with the accompaniment of and bolstering the resilience of communications companies against cyber attacks, by means of establishing the doctrine of defense, providing directives and increasing awareness for the protection of infrastructure, assistance at the time of a cyber attack, and all the while maintaining collaboration with all the state entities dealing in cyber protection of the Israeli commercial market against cyber attacks.
