The Population and Immigration Authority and the Ministry of Strategic Affairs have denied the entry into Israel of the PSC Chairman this evening, due to his ongoing actions to promote boycotts against Israel.
This denial of entry is in accordance with the policy promoted by the Minister of Strategic Affairs and the Population and Immigration Authority.
The Population and Immigration Authority and the Ministry of Strategic affairs have denied Hugh Lanning’s, Chairman of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, entry into Israel this evening. The organization Mr. Lanning heads is one of the leading anti-Israel delegitimization and BDS organizations in Britain, and one of the largest in Europe. The organization works in close cooperation with other delegitimization organizations in promoting boycotts and other activities against Israel. The organization's activists also took part in the 2010 Mavi Marmara flotilla. The official website of the organization is replete with explicit calls to boycott Israel.
In addition to promoting boycotts, Lanning maintains ties to leaders of the Hamas terror group, including those in Gaza. In 2012 Lanning met with senior Hamas figures including Ismail Haniya and others during a trip to Gaza, Lanning himself consistently and personally promotes boycotts against Israel.
In light of this information and following consultations held tonight by the Ministry of Strategic Affairs, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Population and Immigration Authority, a decision was made to deny Hugh Lanning entrance into Israel.
The Minister of Strategic Affairs, Gilad Erdan, said tonight that the ministry, together with the Ministry of the Interior, is implementing its policy of denying entry to those working to harm Israel: “Whoever acts against Israel should understand that the rules of the game have changed. No sane country would allow entry to key boycott activists working to harm the country's core interests and lead to its isolation”.
The Interior Minister, Aryeh Deri, said: “Whoever acts against Israel and does all he can to endanger the security of the state must understand that we are determined to pursue a policy which no longer ignores activists working to undermine the state's existence. The decision we made tonight is an unequivocal statement against boycott activists, and the law that was passed last week in the Knesset is another step in fully implementing this policy.”
