The cloud computing model has been gaining momentum in recent years in many organizations in the Israeli economy and in the Government sector. This trend will expand in light of the Nimbus project. The Nimbus project is a flagship project and a key anchor in the implementation of the Israeli Government’s cloud policy and is intended to provide a comprehensive and in-depth solution to the provision of public cloud services to the Government, the defense establishment and other public organizations, while improving work processes, accelerating digitization processes, and optimizing asset management in the field of information technologies in the Government sector

The Government ICT Authority sees great value in having a public cloud service within the borders of the State of Israel. 
This service will operate in a configuration that will preserve the sovereignty of information and prevent leakage of sensitive information outside the borders of the country. 
Establishing a cloud in Israel will ensure that information stored in the cloud will be protected by the laws of the country and will be operated in a manner that will ensure the continuity of the service, even in extreme cases and even in the event of a disconnection. 
The use of cloud computing enables the consumption of services and resources in a dynamic manner, thus eliminating the need to purchase licenses and expensive systems, installing and maintaining hardware in offices, and sometimes even saving the need for independent development of software products.

The transition to the cloud includes an opportunity for a significant improvement in Government work processes and the services provided to citizens by the Government, while accelerating the Government’s digital transformation process, as well as improving the command, control and cyber defense capabilities of the government IT systems. The transition to a public cloud will make it possible to focus on core processes and service to citizens and businesses, simplify the lateral processes in the Government, implement lateral standardization and accelerate the learning and assimilation processes of new technologies.

The Nimbus project is a strategic Government project, which enables the provision of public cloud services for Government Ministries and associated units based on the public cloud platform that meets the unique requirements of the Israeli Government. 
Moving to cloud services in Nimbus will help Israel become one of the leading countries in the world in making services accessible in the digital age and will allow great flexibility, both on the technological side and from the customer service aspects.
