Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Council

The Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Council is a public council in charge by law of overseeing multichannel broadcasting via cable and satellite as well as the designated channels – the Shopping Channel and the Knesset Channel. The Council consists of 13 members appointed by law, and is consulted by the Public Broadcasting Regulation Administration that comprises professionals who carry out the Council’s decisions.

The Council’s role is to represent, protect and cultivate public interests in multichannel television for subscribers, in both cable and satellite. These interests include protecting the subscribers, for example by enhancing the broadcasts and services provided to subscribers, expanding diversity and pluralism in broadcasts, improving technologies and service, enlarging supply and subscribers’ freedom of choice, increasing competition, etc.

The Council is supported by the Public Broadcasting Regulation Administration, which is the professional body consulting the council, assisting it in performing its role and in executing its decisions.

The Council is in charge of:
• Preserving original productions and television content in Israel
• Supervising broadcasting for infants, children and youths
• Supervising sports broadcasting and channels
• Regulation and supervision over marketing content in the designated channels
• Consumer supervision and protection of subscribers
• Conducting tenders and writing licenses for the cable and satellite broadcasting channels
