The Ministry of Justice encompasses the court systems, the State Attorney's Office, the Execution Office system, legal counseling to the Government and its ministries, and is responsible for the enforcement of criminal law through the General Prosecution System.
The Minister of Justice, as a member of the Government, oversees the Ministry of Justice and is responsible for the administrative, budgetary and professional aspects of its overall operation.
Duties of the Minister of Justice
The Ministry of Justice encompasses the court systems, the State Attorney's Office, the Execution Office system, legal counseling to the Government and its ministries, and is responsible for the enforcement of criminal law through the General Prosecution System.
- The Minister of Justice, as a member of the Government, oversees the Ministry of Justice and is responsible for the administrative, budgetary and professional aspects of its overall operation. The areas of responsibility of the Minister of Justice cover all court and tribunal systems as well as the Execution Office system.
- The Ministry of Justice oversees the ministry's legislative initiatives and their formal introduction before the Knesset and its committees.
- The Minister of Justice does not intervene in individual cases, but has the authority to lay down guidelines for general policy practiced by the State Attorney's Office and the General Prosecution System and for decisions handed down by the General Attorney's Office.
