| Celebrate Chanukah with Israel |
| Last Modified at:10-Dec-2009 |
Travelers wishing to celebrate the holiday of Chanukah will be able to light virtual Chanukah Candles and win a trip to Israel
Chanukah, also known as the "Festival of Lights", is celebrated throughout the Jewish world by lighting eight candles during the eight days of the holiday. The candle lighting commemorates the eight days of the Chanukah Miracle, when sacred oil for the Temple Menorah that should have lasted for just one day, lit the Menorah for eight entire days.
This year, for the first time, Chanukah candles will be lit not only on windows, main squares and public buildings, but also on a virtual Menorah, at a dedicated "microsite", developed in New York in cooperation with the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.
The site will be launched before Chanukah and can be accessed through the Ministry of Tourism website. The site will remain online for the duration of the eight-day holiday, starting Friday, December 11th, and ending Friday December 18th.
With each candle "lit," visitors to the Chanukah website will be able to access more information about travel to Israel. At the end of the holiday, site visitors who have lit all eight candles will be entered to win a free trip to Israel aboard EL AL Israel Airlines, to experience the country's many areas of cultural, religious and historical interest for themselves.
